Documentrial Short Movie, 2019
The presentation we made is parallel with our narrative documentary film about the revitalization of the village of Germir. The aim of the film is to revive the architecture and social structure from that period. The technique we used was shaped to fit criticism and certain determinations about today’s Germir-where the past is still alive, in the street patterns, preserving some urban memories in daily life. Structures that were not able to be seen today were then revived via visual effects with missing pieces drawn on a computer and put together with actual footage from today. Drawings are two-dimensional, desaturated, and cartoonish-creating contrast between old and new to emphasize difference. Old photos and documents, information received from current inhabitants of Germir were taken as reference when interpreting what it was like before. This may be more controversial because of how different cultures have been lost over time. In research on architecture, daily life, worship, and social relations, information on Germir which could not be obtained was compiled from similar neighborhoods in Kayseri and its surroundings. In this context speculative predictions were also used to ensure integrity.
